Chakra Seven - Sahasrara
Thought, Universal Identity, Self-Knowledge
This is the crown chakra which relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. Like the roots branching out of our base chakra, tendrils of consciousness branch out from the crown chakra, perceiving, analyzing, and assimilating infinite bits of information, each enfolded into our ever-growing matrix of understanding. This chakra is concerned with the way we think, our belief systems, and our connection to a higher power. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.
Focus: Crown of the head, the pituitary gland at the base of the brain.
Come into child’s pose with arms forward – place the crown of your head on the floor and begin to explore the top of your head by rolling around in circles, side to side, etc. Next, clasp your hands and place them on the back of your head, crown of your head on the floor, tuck your toes under, and lift your knees. Explore what it feels like to press your crown chakra into the floor.
There is no greater activity for opening the crown chakra than meditation. If you don’t already have a meditation technique, experiment with a few different ones until you find what works best for you. It is important when experimenting, however, that you use one technique regularly for a while before judging whether it is suitable for you. One of the demons of the seventh chakra is attachment. You may want to take a look at the list below and pick one or two of the words that resonate with you and contemplate them in silence – in meditation.
